Starting to buy parts for my motor rebuild. was created by CruisingRam
Starting to start rebuilding my ol Z (1975 B1) starting this month- yeah me- haven't ridden it in 7 years now! It will be about a year long process in my estimation. That being said- I am going to detail and build the engine first, forks second, rear suspension and so on. Frame has already been gusseted.

So- the idea for the engine build- I want HP! street pliable HP, however. I have everything just about hardware wise for EFI. Full EFI system off a GPZ 1100.

I have a full kerker 4-1 exhaust and Motogp pipe already.

So this discussion is all motor at this point. I am going to run J fully ported heads and Larry C suggested cams.

Two big things I need to consider- CC size and back cut gears.

What is a good, streetable size motor these days? I lunched the old piston pretty bad, so some case boring doesn't bother me.

How much do we need back cut gears on these things? I ride pretty hard on twisty roads, and do a lot of shifting.

What J-head are you planning to use?
I have an 84 ZN1100 (bathtub) head on my 82 KZ1100, with 84 GPZ cams, and am very-pleased with the setup. So much so, I've purchased a second lo-mile ZN head to either sit on, modify...or sell. :)

Hawaiian Islands (bro lives on Kauai) mid 80's temps but extremely humid thus possibly an oil cooler and electric fan configuration.
Island isn't that big, considerable so stop & go traffic equates to over heating on a pumped up engine... Just a thought...

While you're in the engine, new clutch plates (fiber & steel) and springs...

Pictures a must through the build...

Ram I guess larry would be the best man to ask allthough he maybe biased towards emptying your wallet  HP does seem to have a close connection to how fat your wallet is :woohoo: I actually pm`ed him with some similar questions a couple of weeks back but have not had a response from the man yet

Larry did an amazing job on my ZN1100 head for my kz1000 bottom end motor. His rate are very reasonable for the quality of work you get. He is as knowledgeable as anyone you will meet. It's the old saying, "You get what you pay for." Larry can be hard to get a hold of because he is always busy with his work. I have personally met him and sat and talked about KZ's for a couple hours. VERY intelligent man. He's the guy if you want it done right and he's not trying to empty your "fat" wallet.
