Tell that to the guys that don't adjust their valves because it's too much work or it cost money. They should be on Mopeds.

Oh, and the ones that refuse to buy a manual.

Sorry for the late reply ladies and gents. Life has a habit of getting in the way. Thank you for the heads up on the service manual. I had been using it to change my tires. And I'll try timing my valves when the time comes......... Anyhow I have that video of the nosie. I believe it's coming from the lower part of the engin. Any ideas? I'll post the video in a second.

The engine is stumbling. Check you valve adjustments, then sync the carbs.

Just a quick thought:
To see if it is a cylinder or...? Pull one plug wire off at a time and increase idle speed a bit to keep it running.
If the noise really drops way off with one wire off.... you might have an exhaust leak or a crack somewhere.... etc
If no difference... you'll have to dig deeper.

Sounds like a cold 550 motor to me, they all sound like cement mixers filled with rocks if you try to idle them when stone cold.

Cold cast Ally pistons need to expand to fit the cast iron liners, the clutch basket will rattle as the rubber dampers inside have aged, maybe a bit of wear in your primary chain and camchain coupled with some valve clearances out...all the usual suspects.

As above, balancing the carbs and checking valve clearances will likely improve things.

Try that again when it is hot, put a rag over the exhaust and rev it up, it should whirr like an electric motor.

Alright. I will adjust the valves and sync the carbs. If that doesn't fix it then i will start to pull plugs. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I will update with results.

I think it MIGHT be the primary drive chain clacking which these sometimes do at idle. Check timing, advancer assembly, and valve clearance.
