KZ900 Valve Clearance

Can someone tell me what the correct valve clearance is for a 1976 KZ900. I have heard that it is between .002 and .006. I checked the clearance on mine today and they are the following:

#1 intake - .003 fits
#1 exhaust - .066 fits
#2 intake - .003 fits
#2 exhaust - .003 fits
#3 intake - .0015 fits
#3 exhaust - .0025 fits
#4 intake - .0025 fits
#4 exhaust - .006 fits.

Looks like the #1 exhaust is too loose. The #3 intake, #3 exhaust, and the #4 intake are too tight. Should I also see about putting a thicker shim in the #4 exhaust ? Thanks for any assistance.

They should be between .002 -.004. If too tight you run the risk of burning a valve.

RIGHT! For the most part, better a little loose then too tight!!

.066? What's the compression like on that cylinder?

Or a bent valve. Do they make feeler gauges that big?

Been there done that :pinch: you can tell right away by sticking a small flash light in the exhaust port and looking in the spark plug hole for light.
note; check it with the lobe facing away from the bucket

You can double up on the feeler gauges. If in fact it is that big, bent valve.
