Those dampers are for noise reduction. You don't need them. If you're talking about the ones that hold the wheels in place you do.

On the 4 small dampers that hold the wheels in place make sure you didn't drop em in the bottom end ..... I removed the oil pan to clean it all out anyway and found the 2 front ones I dropped. My 78 model had the rubber already glued to the cam sprockets and looked to be in good shape still.

It helps to list the exact 650 model in your signature --- B, C or D if it's a 79.
You can check your frame & engine numbers at the following site.

Including information about bike year and model is helpful to viewers and usually elicits better responses.
It's easy to put the information in your signature where it shows in all posted messages, past and future.
And the signature may be changed whenever and as often as desired.
If wanting a signature showing information about the bike in posted messages, it's easy to do.
Here's how:

The early 1977 KZ650 engines used cam chain sprocket cam chain guide roller shafts that were round from end to end (see first image below). If yours are like that someone replaced the original shafts with the non-damper type.
Your 1979 KZ650 engine should have cam chain sprocket shafts that have cutouts on the ends for the rubber dampers (see second image below). If the shafts on your engine have those cutouts you must use the rubber dampers (6 & 7 in 2nd diagram); if the dampers are missing you should be able to find replacements – ask here if you can’t find them.
