Crankcase breather options??

Crankcase breather options?? was created by KzChop82
I use a k&n style crankcase breather on my J engine. Problem is- the filter gets sopped with oil rather quickly and prevents the "breathing" to which it's supposed to facilitate!
Before my top end rebuild- I had a lot of oil leakage issue in many areas on the cylinders. A local mechanic told me that one of the reasons could be that the breather was too soaked in oil and it was putting oil pressure through to the top end...

Some questions:
1. Is there any truth to what he is saying?

2. What are my other options for venting the crank case?
-is there a way that I can vent with a tube into my exhaust and have the excess burned off? I might add- not killing myself or anyone else would be a considerable plus.

Any ideas and alternative photos would be very much appreciated.

Have you done a leak down test? Perhaps you just have too much crankcase pressure caused by too much blow by past the rings.
How about mounting that crank case filter higher so that the oil can collect in the tube and drain down back to the crankcase without getting to the filter.
Just some thoughts.

The crankcase breather on my BSA racing engine was just a short hose that terminated just above the drive chain - no filter of any sort. Oil vapor and droplets from the breather hose kept the chain lubed. Of course, it also kept the back of my jacket lubed too, but that's a different story. Ed

I once read an article about this
"Have the breather empty on to the rear tire, it will prolong the life of the tire. However- it may not prolong the life of the rider..."

Cars have a positive cranckase ventilation system that recycles oil blowback vapours back into the inlet manifold, the original kawi airbox design does this too.

Bored out or tuned motors often have a breather tube(s) added, I went all the way, venting at the clutch casing oil filler and the cam cover to a stainless catch tank, vented to the chain area and draining back through the (unused) airbox breather.

If your filter is getting blocked by oil I'd guess you have excessive blowback caused by a piston ring problem, a filter isn't really necessary here anyway.

I see from your drop box pictures that you've eliminated the air box. Would it be possible to fabricate some sort of manifold to reconnect the breather to the intakes?
That's what I did to two of my pod filters on this bike.

You can, just there should be minimal oil losses in a servicable motor, PCV systems are about eco legislation for manufacturers and not such a problem for us.

Breathers often just a hose vented to a beer can, some race bikes vented to a hollow swinging arm.

When you are getting a lot of exhuast smoke and oil vapour from the breather you have an impending ring/bore or possibly head gasket problem. Your mechanic is talking crap i think :)

I had duel pods in the day. They had fittings for the breather. Keeping the crank case ventilated can also keep the heat down in the engine too.

Tyrell- just did some top end work. New rings, gaskets and seals. Maybe the problem will be eliminated now?
