hello people; I'm new. To anyone who has a 1000 engine that has bent there valves. How many of the valves were bent and which ones?
I just received my valve removal tool and I hope to get to it soon. Any tips on removing the valves?

My experience with valve removal, isn't that great with motorcycles, but after a number of years building racing engines, you have two options. Depending on the degree of distortion from straight, you can either 1) simply heat and bend the valve as straight as possible to avoid damaging the guide that holds them in while making sure to not heat the head or valve guide, or 2) grind it off flush where it is bent (also making sure to not damage the guide) and remove it in two pieces, which is the most likely to keep you from damaging the valve guide. Be sure to check and make sure the valve guide isn't scratched either. Hopefully by bending the valve, it didn't knock a dent in the top of the piston, crack the head, or damage the guide, because if it did, the parts that are damaged will need to be replaced entirely and you may not be able to salvage them. Best of luck with the process!

hello; Thanks for the reply. I think I might of bent them while turning the engine over buy hand while the timing was wrong. The valves came out easy so we'll see. All of the intakes have a small circular mark in them all in the aprox. same place. As a member had noted that the valves were hitting each other rather than hitting the pistons as I originally thought.

hello people; I took the valves to work today and there bent. Mostly around .050 and some oscillate. I didn't measure them all but there all junk.
I have a manual and it confused me with the timing as I said in another post. My cam has both lines and that small arrow that I didn't see. I went to the back of the manual to a suplement and it showed to time to the lines and I did and bent the valves.

Arrow even with the head or just below it, if like mine, 28 teeth to the 28 arrow on intake sprocket. All done while the pointer is on T.

You have joined a large club of people. Those stupid lines on the exhaust cam have bent a lot of valves. The proper "V" mark on the sprocket needs a flashlight magnifying glass to see.

hello people; I finally got my head back. The only thing they had to buy but was the seals. I gave them a bunch of valves so they found usable ones. The labor was a killer. I have not been playing with my project and that's that. I need a head gasket and a couple more items.
One of the workers (Bobby) quit or left or whatever but that was the hold up. They did say to use a fiber head gasket. Tell me of your favorite?
