hello people; I'm new. KZ 1000 project. I see they sell a manually adjusting one. What do you think of that? It might be good for just working in that area. I've had by stock one of and on a bunch of times and every time I want to retract the adjuster I have to take it completely off. I need a new gasket and with the manual one you should never have to take it off.

Steve why do you say that ?
I run a APE tensioner and it's stupid simple
turn the bolt in by hand while turning the crank two rev.'s
then back it off 1/4 turn lock the jam nut you're done.

IMHO best $ 50.00 you could spent on your motor.
Why chance a 30+ year old part that CAN trash your motor
that has a known failure rate.

Kawasaki didn't make a lot of design faults, but I really think the 'automatic' tensioner wasn't their best idea.

IIRC The springs were uprated with a different part number on the GPz550 and maybe others.

I say that because it can be adjusted too tight. If bought used then the owner can make a mistake costing a motor. If the cam chain rollers are worn out and there's no adjustment left, this thing can quiet it down until a broken cam chain is the result.
Guess how I know this. :(
