KZ750 Twin Starter Delete
16 Feb 2015 23:57
Is it possible to block the hole, remove chain. And only use the kick start instead of using an electric starter all together. I am pretty sure I can find a freeze plug that i can fit into the hole with some RVT. Anybody ever done anything like that? I wouldn't have asked if I found a thread Cheers!

If you want to get rid of the starter because of the battery, bad idea. The bike depends on a good battery to run well or if at all. Racers pull the rotor and everything to gain a little more free spin. It does make a noticeable difference but they still have a battery. I only use mine when I have battery problems or something else like a disconnected wire until I can get home. I'd keep it.

Starter, starter gear, chain and clutch can all be removed.
The clutch gear and shim should be retained as they help with oil flow from the crank bearing.
The simplest is to remove the starter, starter gear and chain and leave the rest.
Good luck. Jim

The entire reason im asking is because i dont have one. And instead of spending a 100 bucks if i dont need to I wont. So if there is no starter can I leave that hole where the starter and sprocket is open or do I seal the hole?

I found a rubber bushing that fits in it perfectly just need to rvt seal it and I plan on leaving all the other components there because I will eventually be looking at getting a starter.

Yes, you will want to plug the hole to keep dirt and grit out as this area is open to the crank case for oil drain.

here is what I came up with. This is a body bushing (frame to body) off an old chevy. Fits perfect. used a head bolt off an old 350 chevy also. not to pretty from this side but it will work for the time being

Does that rubber mount have a steel bushing or something inside to lock that bolt into (torque down good so it cant come loose) cuz them 750 twins are about the most vibrating things outside of a harley out there. Wouldnt want that nut coming loose on ya

Yeah they have a counter balancer but still vibrates. Get the starter. You won't regret it when it's cold.
