Ok So go with the versah kit then. Asked the seller just to be sure he is aware that the product described doesnt match the picture. And when he replies I will buy it.

The Athena gaskets failed. I don't know if they were too old but they hardened and broke apart when the engine heat cycled.

Some folks reportedly find it easier to just use pop-sickle sticks or chop-sticks to aid getting the pistons into the cylinders, without using any other method of ring compressor.

Are the cylinders chamfered where the pistons enter the cylinders?

Good Fortune! :)

yeah there is a 45 angle where the pistons go. So they need to be compressed. its nearly impossible since both pistons sit at tdc at the same height to do it by myself.

Biggest mistake I made was doing it by myself. I got them in OK the first time, but had to redo it all when the base gasket failed. Second time going in I broke a ring.

I ended up buying a set of ring compressors from JC whitney. I think it cost $60 for two, but it's cheaper than buying new rings which are not available any more.

One tip: Get a set of four very small vise grip pliers and wrap some tape on the jaws. Then I used them to clamp onto the long studs so they would support the cylinder as I was lowering it down. That way I could manipulate the clamps to get the rings compressed then let the cylinder down slowly.

Here's the ring compressor I used:
