Recognize thIs exhaust system?

4/2 no name plate. Just curious as to what brand. I vaguely remember something like this in the late '70's, early '80's. Is the any advantage to running pipes like this or is it just cosmetic?

Those are cross over 2/1 tuned exhaust. I had a set and let them go damn it. Rode with them for 20 years. Liked the look and sound. Damn near as good as the 4/1 V/H I have now. Don't throw them away.

Some KZ650 models had a similar cross-over system. Those models had 2 HP less than the models with the "normal" 4 into 2 pipes. Ed

I ran against Miller and others with 4/1 systems. It was rider against rider. I bought my V/H system to see if there was much improvement, there wasn't.

I think those are the same as Johnny the Boy had on his bike in Mad Max
Can I convince you to paint it flat black?

Side view. I haven't fired her up yet but the previous owners widow said the bike was loud. Fwiw I found a crusty Uni filter and the back of the air box is drilled with 8 1/4" holes.

They could be Jardines. I've seen Hookers like that as well, but they had cone mufflers.
Here's a Jardine instruction sheet.

Yeah, I think they were Jardines. After the wreck when I was rebuilding my bike and wrenching at a new bike shop, I told the owner I needed Jardine slip on cone baffles and paid for them. He ordered the side draft because they were cheaper. He was a HD guy and didn't like Jap bikes though we were fixing them. I refused to work on HD's. I was getting her ready to leave so I used them. I hated them. I did the math and the slip on's were close to what my V/H system would cost, so I bought them.

I know of a vintage Ducati restorer who does not like Japanese bikes --- he seems to have a bit of a grudge against them, probably since the 70s. He's got a neat workshop chock full of Ducati parts & projects and an attached garage at the back full of a bunch of neat old stuff, including quite a few vintage bicycles & a couple of unusual cars.

A Hooker set w the criss-crossed headers (old photo, probably from eebbaayy).
