May I show you my engine?
19 Jan 2015 13:17 - 22 Jan 2015 20:09
Hi fellas, I'm an old Kawasaki guy from way back. Had a G3 90 back in 1972 and a year later a 1973 H2A when I was 16. I have been trying my hand at restoring the old Kawasakis for the last year and a half and I have and have finished a 1972 H2 and a 1965 B8(the B8 is featured in the Nov. Dec. issue of Motorcycle Classics Magazine). My current restoration is my 1973 Z1. I am done with the engine and it turned out pretty good so I thought I would show it to you guys. It has new gaskets, seals, valve guides, rings, circlips, valve seals, valve job, fasteners and paint. I have right at 90 hours in it and about $2000. I did all the work myself except the valve job.
Here is the bike before teardown.
Preliminary clean.

Wow. very nice work, you do. Bike looks very good.
I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

Nice work, I like that satin black too. Was that soda blasting on the cases?
off topic: The colour of those exhaust valves looks like you have the carbs tuned correct?

I glass beaded the cylinder and head and the engine cases were chemical stripped. I just bought the bike a couple of months ago and I hadn't run for a few years. I tore it down right after I brought it home.

Where are you located? I see the Wheat Growers sign collecting oil under the engine, this means you must be in SD or ND? I was beginning to think I was the only classic kawasaki guy in this state

I am up in the northern part of SD. I wish it was spring so I could ride. I've got two other 900's, a Z1B and a '76 LTD and a dozen triples. I should be done with this restoration by this spring, come on up and check out the collection sometime.
