The steel filter is probably the outside of the filter it's self. The paper is inside. ALWAYS change the filter with the oil.

One more try -

PLEASE add your bike's year and model to your signature line! That will enable folks on this board to provide you with better information concerning your specific bike. The KZ1000 models were built from 1977 through 2005; that's 29 years. That means there were a LOT of different flavors, and they really are not all the same. Ed

Including information about bike year and model is helpful to viewers and usually elicits better responses.

It's easy to put the information in your signature where it shows in all posted messages, past and future.

And the signature may be changed whenever and as often as desired.

If wanting a signature showing information about the bike in posted messages, it's easy to do.

According to the K&N site the 1988 KZ1000P uses the KN-401 oil filter (see first link). Dennis Kirk has them at a good price (see 2nd link). Ed
