I make the O ring tacky as I'm putting it together. I don't care what it says on the package. It won't replace a gasket. I' ll also use it to hold something on while I'm putting it together. Too much and your buying yourself trouble.
Use the fine compound on your valves if the pitting goes away. SHIP IT.
