Folding oil rings on install into sleeve

Hi All

I am getting close to sliding my block over my pistons in the next few days...first time at it.

Was planning to compress the rings in some plastic cut from oil containers/jugs that is bound by adjustable hose clamps.

I See "kaw-a-holic" had trouble with folding oil rings. So wondering if there are any tips on how to prevent / mitigate it?

Thanks
Chris

I've used beer can metal. There has to be a lot of clearance for the ring to fold over. Check them with a feeler gauge. It might be too much.

My problem was that I used just the hose clamp itself, that was a bad idea in retrospect.

The beer can trick works of course with a hose clamp. Still a pain in the ass.

I used popsicle sticks to gently compress the rings to get them in the sleeves. It worked, but it helps to have another person to work on one piston while you do the other.

This is what Jay from APE recommended to me and it worked like a charm. Gotta admit though I was worried sick till I was sure all were good.

They have the compressors come up on eBay from time to time. In the near future I'll be doing this to at least one of my bikes. Good to know about the Popsicle sticks.
