looking for head & piston options
19 Dec 2014 12:56
No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI may have screwed up my pistons when I folded over the oil rings re-installing my cylinders. If I go with a big bore kit do I need to change cams?
I found this used with it work on my 77 KZ1000? "GPz1100 cylinders with pistons, 1089cc with 18mm pins, Fits ZX1100A and ZN1100B with 18mm pins, odo showed just under 28k miles. Just clean it up and install."
What about these?

Doh! done that myself too :pinch: The scraper rings are thin and probably will have scored the barrel, can you see any piston ring / groove/ barrel damage?
When you bore it is usual to change the cams - not just to increase perforance, but to get 'breathing' back to where it should be for the increased capacity. Saying that, if you wanted a tourquey motor primarily rather than a fast road tune you might just keep them the same.
On your nice ebay find, the dome on them looks like high compression, maybe as high as 12:1 and not really what you want imo. Also the later 1100's used 1mm bigger wrist pins.

Saw these right after I posted. Used Wiseco 1075 kit with bored head and Andrews 1X cams for $350. I know 2X would be better but it is what it is.

Those look like 10.25/1. I have 1X cams. They're made by Andrews and they work great. Meant for better low end. PM me with your email and I'll send you the PDF spec. sheet.

Could just be grime. The price is good. He should ask questions and get more pics.

They came out of the same bike, a 79KZ1000 "drag bike". I figured with the 1X cam it could not have been that much of a drag bike. I've looked at other pics and they cold be 10:1 or 12:1s. I'm hoping for the prior.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configuration
Those are cast pistons. If you damage one, you bought the farm.
