I stand corrected about the valve cover. Laid the cams in my 750 head with the cam chain held tight from underneath, then lowered the valve cover over the top. The rubb block in the cover hit the chain before the cover was seated against the head. Eating a crow sandwich. Sorry for the bad info.

Finally after the holidays have past, I got the 84 head and have started to clean and smooth the exhaust ports, also removed the extra material under the valve seat. Has anyone out there plugged up the air port right at the valve guide so it does not dead head up where the block off plate would be? I was thinking of taking a rod slightly over sized and pressing it in and having the top finished off with a tig, then reshaping the area. Here is a pic of what i have so far, also the intake is smoothed from the factory about 2-3 inches in on this head and also on my 82 gpz head, just not all the way, also smoothed around the intake valve seat.

what do you thin about the air port in the exhaust? I started reshaping around the hole and smoothing the lines that flow around the air port to the guide

I was thinking of doing the same. I was jsut up one night wondering if I should plug it down low so the air was not dead heading up the top of the head, not sure if it would flow better.

i was told it does not make a difference, far as performance goes but check with the experts on that, like Larry c.
