lucasstanley wrote: okay, I installed the new cable, correctly positioned the cover so that the shifter lever is springy again (yay) however, range of motion in the shift lever has decreased and it is unable to shift into first....... Stupid me pulled the shift rod(the rod in the upper lefthand corner of the above posted photograph) out completely before I posted this and you guys warned me (my manual doesn't have a warning against it). is it possible that I completely botched this and I am gonna have to tear her apart to fix this? and if so; how hard is it and have any of you guys dealt with this?
That's the clutch push rod. The one I'm talking about is below the counter shaft where the sproket goes. It's the one with the snap ring. If you pull that out, your'e in trouble. Did you check the shift return spring? It's behind the shifter shaft. Spread the locater forks just enough to slide the shifter shaft out. It's only in about 3/4 inch. Then you can inspect the spring.
