KZ650 Valve Cover End Plug Questions was created by Frizzle Fry
I'm about to replace the valve cover gasket and end plugs on my '78 KZ650 - they currently leak very heavily. I'm told the end plugs ALWAYS tend to leak a little, nature of the beast, but I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for a clean install. Thanks!

No, the end plugs do not normally leak at all unless they are REALLY old and have hardened or shrunk. When you install the new ones you should apply a thin coat of sealant to the curved portion that sits in the cylinder head. Any of the 3-bond products should work fine. I used Hondabond-4 (see image below). I always put the valve cover gasket on dry (no sealant) and have never had a leak. It makes removing the valve cover easy and the gasket will last nearly forever. Ed

Good luck finding new ones. The ones from Z-1 and Partszilla are a good sixteenth of an inch too short and don't have as good of a fit. I ended up using Yamabond 4 and my stockers and are 99% sealed up.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configuration

Anybody use this kit? Junk? Seems the price is too good to be true, but who knows.

Junk .....check out the outside ends they are smooth and do not have the 4 angled surfaces the stockers have so they end up being a good sixteenth of an inch too short. Also the inside part is slightly different too. Stockers have two ridges build into them while the ones being sold now only have one.

Ed is right about the part number but the ones I've seen and one set I bought were the same as the 1111 set I bought too. No angles on the outside ends so they are short. Check out the supposably NOS 1011 plugs on ebay none I've seen have the angles. Could be they are lie in and selling newer ones as old stock.

Got mine at Partszilla and Z-1 and both were wrong.

So... where can the right ones be had? Or am I stuck trying to get the old ones back to life?

Forget trying to bring the old ones back to life. Try a new set and if they don't work wire them clean and send them back. Ed

Wanted to add the ones I got from Z-1 are the K and L brand from Japan and not originals but the ones from Partszilla were 92066-1111 a original Kawasaki superseded part that replaces the 92066-1011. They were exactly like the K and ls though and all the so called oem 92066-1011s on ebay for the last two or so years have all been exactly the same as the K and ls too unless I missed a honest dealer selling the real thing.

Also The hole going through the new plugs (both sets) are also a good sixteenth of an inch bigger than the bolts too while on the stockers the bolt threads through the plug and is a good tight fit.

Man, that sounds like a mess... So basically I'm SOL when it comes to finding the real deal, and anything I get will be the same junk? :(

Put on a kit from that seller on my son's 650 this spring , Have over 4500 miles and not a issue to be found, can't understand how the plugs keep getting described as too short?? I found if anything they were slightly tall, but pull down flush when tightening the bolt.
As Ed stated these plug are meant to have a light coat of sealer around the outer diameter
Yes they are different than the old stock ones, they are the modern design
The gasket it self in the link provided does not seem to be made of the same material I have been getting for gaskets??
I have gotten various gaskets from this seller and have been very satisfied with the material, Can't remember if they have "economy" sets but if so, I wouldn't get them.Without looking for the receipts the neighborhood of 26-28 dollars comes to mind....
Hell of alot better than leaking ones

Thanks EZRIDER and KZB2!

I figure $26 is worth a shot, worst case scenario I'm in the same position if it doesn't work out, and at least I know where else NOT to order from.
