LTD Exhaust

I'm pretty sure that I know the answer, but 76' LTD 900 with Vance and Hines exhaust system. Will this exhaust system fit my 77' KZ1000A? Not sure in the muffler mounting bracket or tab how that would mount to my 77'?

You will have to make a rear mounting bracket,no big deal. The A has different rear peg brackets in 77-78 compared to the ltd. :)

Plummen, Do you know if the rear peg bracket of my KZ is further back or further ahead of the LTD? I'm assuming there is a weld on tab of the muffler of the LTD V&H system that doesn't line up to my rear passenger peg mount? So the mounting bracket that I think your making reference to is probably a metal strap with a hole on each end? And that strap would mount to the muffler on one end and the other end to the passenger peg mount? Am I visualizing this correctly?

The bracket for the 77-78 A series is higher uo the frame tube, most bikes need to have an extra bracket between the frame mount and the megaphone bracket anyway. :)

Plummen, So with LTD system , the muffler would hang down lower than the Standard KZ ?

So I'm assuming that raising the muffler if needed doesn't affect how the header pipes seat in the exhaust ports?

NO Duane, you can only raise or lower the muffler so much, before you start putting excess pressure on the exhaust flange studs, that's why you'll have to make some sort of bracket
for instance, this is my 76 LTD with a Kerker, I made a 3 inch bracket from the muffler flange to the foot peg hole

1980 LTD 1000..,1976 LTD 900, have the 1000&900 now. the rest are previous= 1978 KZ 650 B.., 1980 Yamaha XT 500..,1978 Yamaha DT 400.., 1977 Yamaha yz 80..,Honda trail ct 70.., Honda QA 50...5-1/2 hp brigs & straton CAT chopper mini bike...3-1/2 hp mini bike (WHEN GAS WAS ABOUT 45 CENTS A GALLON)!!!!

I'm pretty sure that the weld on tab on the LTD muffler is approximately 2" further back than it would be on the KZ muffler, therefore the tab of the LTD muffler and passenger peg mount on the KZ would not line up. I'm thinking you would have to make some sort of "Horizontal" bracket to connect the two? So instead of a vertical mounting adapter bracket, it would be mounted horizontally and I don't know how that would work?

I had to deal with that problem as well. As you see I don't have a 75-6 with different mounts. Mine looks just like pete's post. I have a custom bracket to make it work. One straight piece of metal bent at two places and it will mount right up.
I'll post up a picture of it shortly.
