I'm with the oil ring guys. I did this on a Wiseco in my air-cooled single, and it would pump half of the oil out of the bike in 5 min

Like I said earlier when I pulled the cylinders off the oil rings appeared to be installed correctly ie. Not overlapped...but idk they could've sprang back upon removal...im gonna tear the head apart and check out those stem seals...I kno 5 minutes isn't enough time for the rings to seat but I've replaced rings on a few other bikes b4 and I've never had one smoke like this....im replacing all gaskets and seals and I'm also having a machine shop re-do the honing and crosshatching to match the rings...seeing as 4 sets of new rings runs about 130 bucks...am I able to re-use these rings considering the bike only ran for abt 5 mins?....the ring end gaps are correct and they are not bent in any way

Ps: also used mineral oil on the first start up I was thinking of another bike when I stated synthetic earlier...has anyone ever used maxima sae 10w30 break in oil?

Thanks

Mineral oil? No wonder it smoked. I use store brand light oil and flush it after 500 miles. Sooner depending how much crap is in there.

"Mineral oil" == "Dino oil" == "Conventional oil". I think he just means it wasn't synthetic.

I'll be interested in seeing the valve guide seals. Mine leaked like a sieve. Didn't smoke a lot, just a puff at start up but fouled plugs every 2-400 miles. Crumbled when I changed them. Were they changed? Who did it?

Have you ever heard the phrase "Penny wise and pound foolish"? Penny and Pound being used as in English currency.

Those rubber rings are the seal between the oil pressure and the cylinder. I'd have replaced them.
