Clutch cable spring was created by jsnabbs
Can someone please tell me the part number to the spring in the picture, i dont seem to have one anymore.

I cant imagine that i would lose such a thing, would the clutch have worked without this before?

All so, i have the new clutch cable and i noticed the privious one had another spring runinng up the lentgh of it, i dont think it has anything to do with the problem i have now. But why does it have that and do i need it?

I'm not sure of the purpose, but my KZ650 clutch cable also has the long spring.

Part number 92081-1058 is no longer an "Active" part (it's now obsolete). However, these folks claim to have 4 new old stock ones. Ed

My 750 clutch cable also has the long outer spring. I have wondered about its purpose and the only thing I could come up with was to prevent contact between the cable sheath and a hot exhaust pipe and subsequent burning.

That spring takes any slack out of the cable, making the lever return against its perch., keeping a bit of freeplay at the push rod to worm gear in the side cover. With a safety switch on your clutch lever, if it didn't return all the way to the perch it may start without the lever pulled in.
Doubt you really need the Kawasaki spring. Ace Hardware or Lowes, or any good hardware store with a selection of springs should have something for about a buck.

Yea, the outer spring along the cable was to keep heat away from melting the cable. It helped quite a bit, but Motion Pro Chinese engineering fully executed a full study and found out conclusively a melted cable does no harm. Well actually cost cutting went into effect on the Chinese cables, but they work OK. The small spring down at your clutch release mech is questionable as to how much it does. I've never ridden without if, but if I had to wager to guess, I would guess you wouldn't notice $0.02 worth of difference whether it missing or on there.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

The small spring & cotter pin probably help to keep the clutch cable seated. I wouldn't want to chance the thing becoming dislodged from hitting a big pothole or something. The spring on my bike is ~3/8" x 2-5/16" --- you can probably find one at a good hardware store.

Some genuine oem Kawasaki clutch cables have the protective outer spring, but some genuine oem Kawasaki clutch cables don't. The same goes for Motion Pro cables --- some have the spring, some don't. I'd guess that motion pro adds the outer spring according to whether or not the oem cable had it.

Multiply the decimal inch equivalent by 25.4 to get mms. 3 divided by 8 x 25.4 = ~ 9 .5 mm
