Engine chain sprocket

So I am about to crack the engine case but I never took the engine sprocket and nut off! How do i do this now that the engine is off the frame? How do I keep it from moving in order to loosen the nut?

This should enable you to loosen that nut (see link below). Ed

well I did like they suggested but it still wont budge. I bought a torch and am going to heat it up a little bit. It seems whoever tried to take it off the first time rounded the nut a little bit so it is hard to get a great grip. I sprayed it with some seeping fluid to try to loosen it as well.

Can you post a pic., do the threads look rusty, I'm sure you bent the tabs back, :) , are you using a 6 point & NOT a 12 point socket, 12 point is more likely to spin & round off, the nut, some heat will help

Are you using a long breaker bar ?? you cant get enough leverage with a 1/2 inch socket wrench !!

Good point. I totally didnt think about that. Also do you think it would matter what 6 point I use as there are two size options on the bolt? Do you think the bigger one, since it is closer to the sprocket, would be easier?

I would say ....NO......that bearing race is split and ready to be well and truly retired. I am afraid it's a case splitting situation as those bearings are locked into the case with a half-moon shaped steel locator band.... :(
