Derale oil cooler pics KZ650 was created by Proxy
Said I'd get some pics of the oil cooler.

Still not sure if I am installing this in my build. But here it is.

Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

I'll get pics of the cooler itself. It's pretty much standard. Mostly I was showing how it attaches to a KZ650.

Ah so this is the filter coverplate or whatever it's called??
This will really work?? What keeps you from having 2 supplies? to the cooler
Doesn't this return cooled oil to the same place it's picking up the hot oil?
Is there enough pressure to move the oil to a cooler then thru it and back?
The cover itself seems not quite stock? My 650's looks alot different.
I am thinking there are ports available on the engine for hooking up a cooler?

Cover is not stock. It is deeper. It came with the cooler and is quite different from stock. I'm thinking the gate controls the psi and produces the flow. I'm told it has a thermostat in the cooler. Yes there are alternate oil hookups on a 650. This was a complete unit when it was bought. Cooler mounts to horn mount. I looked back in some of the old books and they state it's a pretty good system. I asked about it about a week ago so if you search you should find my thread. "Doesn't this return cooled oil to the same place it's picking up the hot oil?" Yes that seems a reasonable assumption but doesn't all coolers do that one way or the other?

Well yes in general theory they do.... as in the engine is hot when the oil is returned..... But in this setup what keeps oil just returned from being sent right back to the cooler? and how does hot oil get in the loop?? Also don't see what keeps both lines from being supply's to the cooler? I would think a check valve is needed in 1 of the lines(the return)??

Looked up your thread from a week ago...... I see another member has this setup on their bike so I guess it works??(although we only see the outside) It just seems like something is missing....

I'm guessing now.... but see the two tabs on the outside. They make sure it is in a certain position attached to the oil pan. That might make it work or helps keep it straight when tightening it. Not sure. And that gate seems to channel the oil int a spot which should increase the pressure in that area. Or maybe decreases it. Causing a flow between the outlets/inlets. I'm not a fluid dynamics expert by any means but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn quite a few times. My uncle did run this setup for quite a few years on his 650. The guy who bought his bike from my father did not want it. My 650 is stock and I live in New England so I prob do not need it. BUT, I am building another 650 that will not be so stock and am considering putting it on. Not sure what you mean about only seeing it from the outside or something seems missing? The cooler is nothing special except it says DERALE on the sides. Attaches at the horn mount.

From the pic in the other topic, he probably means you can see the exterior of the cover plate, but you can't tell by that pic if there are any additional fittings under the plate that you may need that are not shown in your photo. So for proper oil flow, it seems like yours could be missing something.

Hit the nail right on the head Martin......
I am no expert either, and I haven't stayed at a Holiday Inn in ages
But I do know :) if the oil is under pressure in the area defined by the circumference of the plate there appears to be nothing that would make the oil go out 1 hose versus the other hose?? I guess it wouldn't hurt anything, but it wouldn't be a functioning cooler.

That thing doesn't seem right to me either, but I really don't know.
