Does anyone have any experience with V&H Performance baffles? I didn't know if they made a real difference in exhaust note?

Looks identical to the baffle that came with my V&H and they are saying its a replacement, so it must just be the "stock" V&H one. I usually just run without any baffle though....it's certainly not subtle.
If you have a V&H and don't have a baffle...yes, it will make a huge reduction in the sound.

If you have a baffle, you can do like I did and remove the packing and reinstall the baffle. It makes it louder but isn't obnoxious like an unbaffled pipe is.

I cut all but the last inch of the baffle off and pop riveted the end cap back on along with the existing screw. Sounds good but again not obnoxious like no baffle at all.

Thanks, I unwrapped mine, cut the fiberglass in half and then re wrapped it with some tie wire. The performance baffle has a larger diameter center pipe so I didn't know if it would give a deeper note or not.

I swapped the regular baffle in my V&H for a competition baffle a couple of years ago. It makes it sound much better. It's not obnoxiously loud, but louder than the street baffle. I love it.

Does this baffle change necessitate re-jetting the carburetors?

Stock baffle measures one and an eighth and tappers down slightly from there , so the inch and three quarters should be much more free flowing. If they get them back in I'm thinkin I'm picking one up. I been going without the packing since I first got it too.

As long as you aren't jetted too lean now, I wouldn't think you would need to rejet just from swapping the baffle. I put the baffle in at the same time I rebuilt the motor and put larger carbs on, so I can't compare before and after on the jets.

Here is what I did to mine. I cut @ 5" off of it and made my own end cap using 3/4" 6061 T6 using a router. Its pretty loud but more importantly it flows excellent with my motor/carbs. I think I just got lucky though

I'm sure there are two different baffles for VH. One is stock and other is larger which will let bike bark a bit louder but still retains enough back pressure to keep your torque going strong. I personally have the comp baffle in mine. That is a real difference in performance and sound is just a little bit or more louder. You should tune it so it runs to the mods installed. It will still run but a properly tuned set up will make a big difference in the acceleration factor. You'd be surprised at just how much.

I forgot to mention, my pipe has been shortened as well. The previous owner shortened it, I had it ceramic coated and added the nameplate along with the endcap. I shd add that my head has been ported with larger valves, bigger cams, a 1200 kit, and RS 36mm Mikuni's. I would not recommend doing this pipe mod to a stock motor in most cases you will wind up losing HP.

Cheers,
Doug
