z1r camshaft change
06 Mar 2014 22:31
Hi
Maybee i need some stronger glasses but i have search every where and i can not find a write up
on how to change camshafts?
I have seen a lot of posts with bent valves and i dont want to do that.
So please link me to a tread or to a manual .
I got a set of norris turbo cams and my engine is fully rebuilt so i dont want to ruin it.
I know cam timing ,marks etc. just to be shure what is the best way to keep tension in chain
when camshaft is lifted out
Thanks again

You definitely need a manual. I usually run a long screwdriver through the chain and backbone of frame to keep it from falling down the galley. Other than that, just make sure slack is pulled out between crank and exhaust cam before bolting down. Then the same between exhaust and intake. Once you have both cams in , install tensioner and rotate engine w a wrench to make sure nothing is binding before hitting starter button

This is an advanced process. You need to be a well informed mechanic to preform this task.
If they are "drop-in cams" you are primarily concerned with getting proper cylinder to top dead center and then installing cams to proper orientation per manual. You then need to count out link pins to 28 on chain from intake to exhaust. This is plain as day in manual.
If you have slotted cam sprockets, you might have to set lobe centers. This was hard for me to understand after reading posts and looking at diagrams for over a year.
If you cant read your manual, read this and be 90% or more there.....you need to find a qualified mechanic to do it. You will fk your engine up. Please don't kid yourself.
