I see that my Mikuni RS36 kit comes with a gigantic crank vent hose to be installed along the frame and out behind the rear wheel. The old crankcase breather hose went into the old airbox, which I have now removed in order to run pods with the RS carbs. I was thinking of using a crankcase vent breather filter like this:

Installing it like this:

Will this do, or do i need to route the big ass hose instead? I appreciate any views on this, as I have no experience with this. Thanks.

If it were me, I'd put the filter further from the carbs, as the filter will attract dirt form the oil being expelled via the breather.

I used a crankcase filter like that for years when I had pods and never had an issue. It was installed exactly like shown in your photo attachment. I never had oil or anything else come out through that vent

Those filters look like they could let water in the engine. I've always just got a simple hose and ran it up and back making sure the end is pointing down. I can't see any need to use a filter other than cosmetic looks.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I run a filter like that and I do get oil out of it.
But then my motor spend's most it's running time over 9,000 rpm's.

The more blowby the motor has the more oil you'll
get out of the breather.

I have run mine both ways. With the filter there its hard to adjust the idle .With the hose back and under its clean.

Mine has filter just like that one on it. I like the filter to make sure nothing gets into the line.

I had one like that and it fell apart from age I suppose. I had the hose that came with my RS 34's so I used it and ran it up into the tail section.

My bike had the big long tube to the rear fender when I got it, and I replaced it with the setup shown. My K&N filter has a metal post, so I used about 1" of rubber hose to connect the breather tube to the filter. Works great for me.

The only problem I have is that I can't get the hose to stay on the breather tube. Well, I'll say it's very easy to knock off if I'm fiddling with the carbs. The breather tube hose barb is a bit short for a traditional gear clamp and it seem to always want to pop off. Anyone have a clever solution to keep that thing solidly clamped to the breather tube?
