KZ750F Cylinder Measurement Question was created by Nessism
Used a bore gauge on my cylinders last night. Engine only has 10k miles on it, but has some odd looking wear in the bores.
Factory service manual calls for measuring at three locations, top, middle, and bottom, so did that, including measuring at 90 degrees at each location for a total of six measurements.
Spec is 66mm bore (2.5985"), and max is 66.1mm, with no more than .05mm (.0020") difference between any of the measurements.
Good news is out of round and taper for all cylinders is under .0010".
Bad news is all cylinders measured under nominal by between .0013" to .0026", Measuring at the very top and bottom of the cylinder, where the piston doesn't even swipe, showed most points at .0010" below nominal. So that's my quandry: is it normal to have the cylinders measure so far under nominal?
Need to measure the pistons next to determine piston to wall clearance but clearly, it's going to be about .002" above the nominal level.
Anything to be concern with here? Was planning to bottle brush hone the cylinders and keep running. Was originally planning to reuse the rings, but leaning toward replacing them now.

If you're worried about it use a rigid hone.

Was under the impression that you bottle brush hone used cylinders. If the out or round or taper is above spec, you need to bore to the next size.
Wrong?
