Why were you running a copper head gasket?

baldy110,
I was using a one piece copper head gasket because the two piece fiber I put in prior to the rebore was leaking in the front so I figured I would try something different.

OK,...so I am ready to put the cylinder and head back on the bike. I decided I am going to go with the one piece fiber head gasket.
Has anyone used the high temp copper permatex to fill the cam chain o-ring area.? That is what I am planning on using and just wanted some feedback.

i have no experience with the particular goo you are talking about.

but,it is basically just space filler so anything that sets up will work.

I wonder if the sound along with low compression is/was leaking head gasket? It would give a whoosh sound that could be what you are hearing. Thinner between cylinders, warpage on head or cylinder deck....etc. Copper head gaskets take a certain way of torquing, then re torquing after run in. Would account for everything you saw....Just my .02....

A leak down tester would have pinpointed the compression problem & they are not expensive. If you like to work on motors, treat yourself to proper tools.
