Engine Cases was created by Vranasaurus
Can you swap out bottom halves? I damaged the lower engine case on my Z1. I have another case but want to know if there are any issues with just replacing the lower half?

Also is it possible to split the case without removing the engine? I think the answer is no but just wanted to ask.

Thanks

Machined as one, the crank bores and things of that nature would be out of alignment.

Yes they get sold on ebay in halves, no i wouldnt even think about it. What damage did you do to your cases?

Totally destroyed a bolt hole for the outer sprocket cover. IE I put a hole in the case. Yes I know I'm an idiot.

Point 1 Don't use a mismatched set of cases

Point 2 Yes the motor needs to be removed from the frame to pull the bottom case off

Point 3 Pictures would be nice but if broken you may want to reach Joe Hooper at Pitstop who advertises on this site. He claims to be able to fix all sins. He does nice work and has good pricing when I did business with him

Good Luck
Dave

Im sure a competant welder could fix that but with the location it is in you are stripping the motor down and taking that case in bare.

Might cost a bit to get done though.

If you gotta split the cases to get it welded i would just use different cases.

I dont have a completely good set of cases just a good bottom end. If I go to use new cases I have to tear the top end apart. I can split the cases without tearing the top end apart correct?

Dont use different cases! You need those matching numbers for a correct Z1. Yes, case half swaping has been done. I have done it myself. Most of the factory tolerances allow you to do this with out a problem. One of the biggest things that has kept me from swaping halfs is a mis match length for the outside covers (ignition, clutch, and dyno.) Sometimes they are about .015-.02 off and thats too much for a gasket to seal.
If you case is not pouring oil out right now from the damage it can be welded.

Yes, you can split the cases without removing the top end. I did it last summer when I replaced the transmission on my GPz.
