Any chance you can refer me to the shop u had that 200$ valve work done at? I want to pull the head, just have to get these plugs out to get at the bolts.

Doesn't look bad at all. The valves always gunk up with burned on oil over time if the seals are leaking, that's to be expected. Piston tops look OK. If you are going to try to clean the piston tops, be VERY careful to keep any crud from falling down the sides into the rings.Schmeck wrote: Finally got the head off . crescent wrench and a large tire iron was need to get the cam plugs out . Alittle disappointed when i took the head off . Looks like I have a winter project. Valves are crusty black and pistons dont look too great either. Any opinions on how it looks compared to a normal motor ?

Go to your local bike dealer and chat up one of the mechanics. Ask them what shop they use for their head work.Schmeck wrote: Any chance you can refer me to the shop u had that 200$ valve work done at?
You use the 10mm valve cover bolts. They thread down into the plugs. Then lay a piece of wood across the top and use a wrench to get under the head of the bolt with leverage. I used some paint stir sticks and a 13 mm wrench.Schmeck wrote: I want to pull the head, just have to get these plugs out to get at the bolts.

I got a set of new valves cheap on ebay from Rusty Riders LLC. That was six years ago.Schmeck wrote: No idea how old my pistons are . but They wipe clean so I think im good. Do you have any suggestions on where to get exhaust valves? Or is ebay pretty much it for these bikes.
I would not assume the valves are bad until you see them. The valves in mine did 80k miles and probably still had life but I replaced them anyway.

I am going to try and get the valve head taken in somewhere to get it looked at. My new Viton valve seals just came in the mail yesterday. They are blue ( weird) but will hopefully be better than stock. I will have someone change those out and look at the valves for me. Right now Im just changing the seals and hopefully cleaning up the valves. After that, I will look at getting new shims as two of mine were out of spec. Thanks Bounty Hunter
