hi everyone i have a 1980 kz 1000 G .having trouble determining problem . in first and second gear it bucks and feels like it is slipping. it does not do it in 3 ,4, or 5th gears. someone told me it could be a broken tooth on a gear. i have no idea. any thoughts would be helpful.

Pull the oil pan and take a look up in there to see if you can see anything before you pull the engine.

Yea...parts will interchange...except if you have a MK11 motor then the cam gears and crank center pin gear are different and have to be figured in. Otherwise the Z1 and regular KZ1000 engine parts will work in each other.

any kz/z1 head from a 900/1000 will fit.

also pull the cover behind your counter shaft sprocket.make sure the out put shaft bearing is not broken.i had the one in my 1980 z1r crack around the circlip groove and the cage came off letting the bearings"stack"up on one another which allowed enough slack for the output shaft to jump around in first and second.

i have seen another 78 z1r with the same problem.
