Im wondering if anyone can tell me the difference between the intake and exhaust cams when they have become seperated from the cam gears. Are there clear markings that show the difference? Also wondering what markings on the gears denote which cam they attach to. My cam gears have been milled and slotted, one on the round hole and the other on the hex shaped hole. My Clymer manual says that the intake cam should be attached through the cam gear with the round hole and the exhaust cam through the cam gear with the hex shaped hole. I see it is reversed for the earlier J model 1000's. Does anyone know if this is correct? I am trying to get these ready to be degreed and dont really tust the accuracy of a non factory manual. My cams and cam gears are in pieces and this is the next obstacle i need to overcome to get this up and running.

The intake and exhaust cams (without the gears) are identical. What changes the use is how the camshafts are mounted in the gears. If no one answers today, I have a loose set of 1983/84 gpz camshafts but can't look at them until I get home tonight.

(1) For exhaust use, the two bolts go in the circle recesses
(2) For intake use, the two bolts go in the hexagonal recesses
