? for Larry.

Total timing in my ign. box is 40 degree's.
I've read 35 degree's bring it all in early
would work better.

If you are using the GPZ750 igniter, then many owners reported the GPZ900 ignitor to have a better advance curve, and possibly a rev limiter.
Might give that a try. Story I've read is that most, if not all GPZ UniTrak models igniters will interchange.
GPZ750 FAQ (Google search) has lots of info about such things.

Steell right now I'm running the '83 GPz750 ign box.
I've got a list of box's that have diff. curve's,
total timing and with or without a rev. limiter.
I'm just thinking 40 degree's is alot of advance.

Easy enough to swap it at the track between passes. There's probably more to be gained by making sure your drive line is as free rolling as you can make it. You're at full advance well below the RPM you're launching at so I don't see how the curve plays into it at all. It's the total advance that matters for what you're doing.

I know the curve isn't in play it's the total advance
I was asking about.
Just wondering if taking some timing out would help.
For what the box's sell for I don't want to buy a bunch
that I don't need just to test them even though I know thats
the best way to see what works best.

Might be worth a Dyno Tune to see where your engine set up will make the best power, with what TA. It may surprise you as to what works the best.

M/H the pick up plate in my motors fixed I can't move it to change the T/A
all the timing is in the box.
Just looking for some input before I go spend a few
hundred on box's to test what works best.

Mounting holes can be slotted. Stops for the weights can be bent, or material added to limit travel etc. Lot of fine tuning could be done without $ for parts. But to really see the difference, through the curve you really need a Dyno. Money well spent I would think. You can see how the TA is effecting the Torque curve through the useable power range.

No weights I have a fixed rotor and this is the GPz pick up mount.
Not as simple as slotting a points plate.

The elecronic advance models should increase advance all the way through redline. Quickly at first, then slower as the RPMs go up. So there in not a fixed amount of advance.

Might sound unrealistic but it's possible to tune to make a dyno happy but end up not going as quick or as fast at the track. It happens....
I'd almost be willing to bet that if OMR could get a box in his hands to figure out how the box senses RPM that he might be able to tweak it
. Worth a PM anyway. He's pretty darn smart with electronics. He fixed his own CDI for under $10 and a new one cost mega $$$
Another possible solution might lie in the tab on the rotor. You can buy and advanced rotor. That said it seems logical that you might be able to grind one to retard the timing....just a thought
