don't use grease on the pistons for assembly.
use engine assembly lube.
or the same oil that you plan to run in the engine.

+1 on what crh said. You must use the cam caps from the head they were originally from as cam caps and head are line bored and are not interchangeable, also if you are going to use the better cam bearings swap them over in the same positions they are in now. I am still a little confused by the cam chain issue you posted. If you have an endless chain I believe you should not split the chain and add a rivet link...others more knowledgeable will chime in here but I think you have to split the cases (a much bigger job) to install an endless chain. Also very important..... do you have a factory service manual for your bike? This would be a crucial thing to have to do the work you have planned. Good luck man

i have used rivet links several times on these motors.
back when i was young, broke and didn't wanna split the cases.
because i was afraid something would shoot out and i would never find it  .
as long as you installed it properly you prolly won't have any trouble with it.

:woohoo: well it runs...for now. Haven't done anything else other than turn it over and here it purr for a few minutes!!!! (sounds very tight, in a good way)
Had 100psi in all 4 after assembly but before actually running it.
Lots left to do. Was reading past threads about breaking it in. The only true new stuff were the rings and cam chain. Its been 30 years since I had a bike where I had to baby it. Going to take it slow.
Once again, thanks to all who contributed to this point!!!!
Still trying to get pics up.
Stephen
(the rain didn't help-east coast- and my wifes name is Andrea also.....sign? NAAAAAAAH
