you might have to use the cams that go with the bottom end as the shafty motor has a good chance of being a mk11 engine with different amount of sprocket teeth.
take pics.
post them here :evil: !

You either biought a heavy duty cam chain, or one with a rivet link. It can't be both.

• Heavy duty Tsubaki linked cam chains, requiring Tsubaki BS05MH Master Link;
• Extra heavy duty Tsubaki endless cam chains.
Opinions vary as to choosing between ease of installation with risk of potential link failure, or splitting the cases to install an endless cam chain.
Good Fortune!

Also going to re-ring the pistons from that 79 shaft and use those also and basically all the cam chain sprockets. Are those the ones your talking about.

Thanks Leon
the cam sprockets are the ones i was referring to.
the gear in the center of the crank and the sprockets on the cams are the ones that need to be matching.
heads and cylinders swap no sweat.
all the idler gears are interchangeable, just look em over and use the best ones.

1.going to start reassembling engine(top end).Should I be use some sort of greese on sleaves, pistons etc ?
2.Using the 79 st jugs which turned out to have been upgraded to .50 oversize. (0.020)? Any problem with using normal 77 head gasket.
3. Bought a head of e-bay (1978) and in came with bearings and caps. Since I'm using the cams from the 77 head should I also use the the bearings and caps from the 77 also ?
Thanks in advance,
stephen

You can use the bearings if they're in better shape but use the caps from the new head.
