What type of carb did you install in the place of the FI?

Good fuel flow to the carbs? You don't have a vacuum operated petcock on the tank? I'd drop one or more float bowls & turn on the fuel to see if there's a blockage.

the carbs are getting fuel. could it be the difference in the heads where the injection mounted it has the carbs about an inch further away from the heads could that cause it to not pull the fuel into the cylinders.

Have you done a compression and leak down test? A new/rebuilt engine might have 180-200 PSI, put some years & miles on it, and the compression might be 160 or so. An engine will run at 100 PSI, but burn more fuel, and produce low power. Checked the valve clearances too?

have not done a compression check yet but this bike has ran recently with the fuel injection on it what did you think about the difference of distance away from the heads the carbs are mounted because they were made for injectors .

Perhaps the carb pilot circuits need cleaning, and maybe the enrichener (choke) circuit also.

Immediately after failure to start, do the spark plug tips have fuel on them?

Good Fortune! :)

I have a 1980 G1 and it ran fine with VM 26s. The extra length intakes didn't seem to cause any problems Good luck, Scott
