Camshaft Identification
27 Mar 2013 15:23
When I got my 750e it came with an extra head, cams, and cylinders. The p.o. said they were from a gpz, but I have come to realize he was full of %$#$&. How can I identify this stuff?

Measure base circle and the nose with a caliper or micrometer to find lift.(narrow diameter of the cam lobe and the wide diameter of the lobe to determine valve lift..)
List both measurements in thousands and we'll go from there.
Some cams are marked differently and that may need to be addressed later.

Thanks. I'm waiting for my digital caliper to come in so I can do the measurements.

I've read that the GPz cams have two grooves cast into them, fairly close to the center where the sprocket bolts on. That was for a GPz 550. I don't know if the same is true for a GPz 750.
I have also wondered if the 550 and 750 cams might interchange. Anybody know?

83-85 GPz750 has no provision for a tach drive on the head, and no tach drive gear on the exhaust cam.
83-85 GPz750 cylinder head and block have angled corners rather than the round corners on the KZ750.
83-85 GPz750 cylinder block lacks provisions for the roller chain components of the KZ650, and the head does not have the four bolt holes on top for the KZ650 chain idler gear.
There are pics here somewhere of the two different heads.
No, the 750 cams will not fit the 550.
