All,

Looking for a recommendation for a camshaft to be used on a KZ900 street bike. Bike will have jetted VM28 pumpers, aftermarket exhaust, and 1015cc kit with 10.25:1 compression (static)ratio. I have heard the Andrews 2X cams are the ones to have. Any thoughts on that? Any other ones to try? IF the Andrews, anyone know of a set? I have been watching the ads and Ebay....

Cory

A pair of 83/84 GPZ cams with APE KZ conversion cam sprockets, they make the sprockets for both 15&16 tooth cranks, work really well.

Cory, Don is correct....these are nice cams and with the 28's would be a good street setup.

The GPZ 1983 1100 CAMS came up in my build from John Pearson....he knows alittle about KZ platforms and what works or not.

So I need a set of 83-84 GPZ1100 cams and the adapter sprockets from APE for my roller chain and proper tooth count? Any head clearancing required?

Not sure if those sprockets are adjustable, if so I suppose if you turned the cams slightly inward toward each other you may gain some horsepower.

Id listen to what john says. He did all my machine work and a few other stuff. Hes a stand up guy. If he told me to let donthaveakawman work on it i would!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :laugh: :silly:

The 83/84 cams conversion sprockets only come in 32 tooth, so you would need to have a MKII crank with a 16 tooth center pin. Also with those cams you will not be able to use your stock tach because they do not have a tach drive.

They were a good cam for a small cc street bike. Watch carefully when buying used cams off Ebay.

I've got them in my motor with a 15 tooth crank with adjustable sprockets. :evil: :evil: Along with a cavanaugh ported head. :S :S And a big hair dryer going on it. B) B)

www.kzzone.com has 15 tooth roller chain, with the two bolt for the GPZ and later cams on their site.

Larry,

Got my quote from Joe at Pit Stop for a full engine rework including 1015 kit. Quite prioey, but not surprising. Other wise, was going to hone the jugs and re-ring it and leave it at a 903. I don't like the stock compression ratio of 8.5:1 though. So either way, the Andrews 2x's would probable work well in my application.

I found a a set of brand new GPZ cams as recommended above, and they are $150 each plus $47 each for shipping from Sweden.... :sick: I am going to keep an eye out for used GPZ's....
