OK....I've been sitting on this, but I second the notion George does great engine work. With or without new tools. It may blow up tomorrow - but I was pretty impressed that my engine restarted on the first crank after 18 years. View the actual video of it's re-birth here: B)

That's my voice but the video compression made it sound worse than it is!

We'll have to see where engine building goes. Problem is, right now, that shipping an engine anywhere is expensive. Engine rebuilding is pretty labor intensive... three days for me to rebuild an engine so not sure there will ever be a real market for that type thing. The investment in quality machine tools and measurement tools and learning curve for some of the machine work makes turning my shop into a machine shop a big question as well...

3/4 of a turn... wow! What was done to the engine to rebuild it guys?

I never consider buying some of these great deals on engines I've seen lately due to the cost of shipping, just curious as to what it costed to ship an engine like that? Did you guys crate it yourself before shipping it to George or did you have the shipper do it?

Looked at your site, nice job on the resto, about how much do you have in the project if I might ask?

Skip built a small pallet and sat the engine on it. Then he used turn buckles and mades sides/top. The thing was pretty! The crate worked VERY well through Forward Air which is about the cheapest way to ship these days. I have had engines shipped to me via Forward Air uncrated... kind of depends on the mood of the guy in charge taking your money. One way they seem to feel they can ship OK without a crate is to use that self sticking plastic wrap... kind of like Saranwrap on steroids... I have had several engines get through uncrated wrapped in a big does of that stuff. FWIW: Foward Air only take money orders for payment. If you ship, you have to first get them to give you an exact price after sizing/weighing then go to a convenience store for a money order. No checks or credit cards... not sure about cash but I suspect they might take cash. Also, they will set a pallet on your pickup truck bed or pick it up off of the bed with a fork lift so you don't have to wrestle the engine inside somewhere.

I have somewhere between $4000 and $5000 into the project. I'll tally up the receipts when I'm done: B)
Gave George and Z1 Enterprises quite a bit of business and am grateful for the wonderful work George did on the carbs and engine and Jeff's help in getting my parts selected. Wireman's been a good mentor and friend as well as hard-to-find parts supplier. ltdrider has given a lot of crucial advice as well. Not to mention many others who have weighed in during my sometimes seemlessly ending stupid questions!
George's description of the Forward Air process is right on. We had to go to the convenience store and make a money order. They won't take cash. Put about $40 bucks in the crate. Worked like a charm.
