My guess would be 3 - 4 shop hours for a pro. I assume the parts might be $100. I don't know what "shop rate" is for labor these days, probably about $100/hr around here. I would think $500 ballpark would be reasonable, but that's a guess.

As I have that motor I'd say Bountyhunter's
$500 is about what I'd charge labor plus part's.

Just an add, if I was doing it, I would have the head done (valve seats and valve seals) since that would save all the labor of doing it again later.

Would also greatly increase the cost. But yeah, depending on mileage and history, I would agree.

Hopefully the head won't need to be surfaced for flatness, although that only cost me about 80 bucks to have done(to my cylinders). Larry c took care of the head side for me while he was "refurbishing" the head.

Mine:
04 Honda rebel 250(wifes)
04 GSXR 750(bolt on galore)
98 CBR 600F3(filter, pipe, adjustable cam sprokets, dyno tune)
76 KZ900A (LTD gauge pods, crash bars, LTD(style)pipes, dyna coils and ignition, headwork and mild port cleanup by cavanaugh racing, K&N filter pods, heck I dunno.

 seems a little stiff to me. probably $100.00 for gaskets. should be more like $250 to $300.00 tops for labor imo as long as you engine doesn't have any other issues. and I guess it depends on how hungry they are for work in this economy.........I know most dealers in my area will not work on any mc more than 3 years old . you gotta laugh
it's something you should be able to tackle yourself if you are mechanically inclined . . it's not brain surgery . Buy a good OEM manual and do it yourself. :woohoo:

I've been considering doing it myself... I'm pretty good at figuring things out,,, but,,, I've gotten so many replies about this and that ,,,I'm scared.. I've got the gaskets,, head, valve cover o rings cam covers a compression tester,, I also have heard that before I break it down I should do a leak down test,,,, to see if rings or such need replacing,,,so here I am,,, this is gonna be my daily rider for the summer, I don't wanna have to wrench it all summer,,, I wanna ride it......

Do the work yourself, you will learn a lot and know it is done right. Just get a manuel, take your time and if you have questions, ask. It is not that hard of a job. Why do you need to replace the head gasket?
