For 15 bucks I downloaded one from one of the sites and it's just like the oem shop manual. They scanned every page into a pdf file. It's perfect for the exception that even though the description said it covered 78 D1, it did not. The actual download was for two entire books. One is for a 77 B1, and the other is for 81 thru 83. As far as engine, electrical, tranny, etc. which one is the closest to my D1? The 77?

No. For one thing the charging system on the 1977 models is totally different than the 1978 models. You will need to keep looking for a manual for your exact model if you want one that covers everything. Ed

Thanks Ed, I actually found one on ebay and the seller did confirm it covers the D1. Waiting for a refund on the one I downloaded because it should have covered D1's but it doesn't.

Just wondering please, does anyone have a source for a PDF of the OEM manual to suit my '80 1000 A4 ? I had one way back when I bought my '77 A1, but gave it away to a since-deceased fiend quite a few years back.

Definitely prefer the facotry manual,I was hugely impressed with the way it's writte, describing the function of each aspect of the bike. I know there are hard copies available, but I really would prefer a PDF, not for the price but the convenience of storing it on a laptop.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Motor Head has a 1000 manual in his signature, but I don't know what models it covers.

To the op: I wouldn't use the 81 manual when working on a 78 model.
