PMFR clutch release, KZ1000 was created by Slashaguc
Hi Guys,
I recently bought a used PMFR clutch release kit for a '79 KZ1000 but unfortunately it did not have the four mounting bolt spacers included. Two of the four spacers are the same length, while the other two are each different in lenght to the first two mentioned. Can someone please tell me what the length of the spacers is so that I can machine up a set on the lathe? If anyone needs a set, I'll be happy to produce a second set.

Thanks Guy's.
Slash.

Hi there,

I will be happy to turn up a second set of spacers for you on the lathe when I get the lengths verified.

Please PM me your name & postal address if you would like me to mail the parts to your home.

My best to you,
Slash.

Would the dimension not be the same as the depth of an original clutch cover minus the thickness of the PMFR plate that you are using? Not trying to be smart but just thinking of an easy way to duplicate for your circumstances.
Good luck.

cant you just bolt the clutch release up to the engine using the two bolts and spacers that you already have and measure the distance on the missing 2 i had to do that when i changed bearing supports on my cartire bike

The part did not have any spacers with it when bought. The problem that I have is that me and my bike are over 5000mls apart right now! I bought the part to bring home with me and fit to the bike on my next trip home.

You should try calling them. I bet they would be happy to sell you a couple of spacers. I can't imagine they would charge too much.

curious on a similar subject, is the clutch push-rod supposed to be greased. there seems to be more tension on the lever while riding vs in neutral.

How can you go from one thread to another bouncing between knowing everything to knowing nothing? Either admit your skill level and stop giving out bullshit advice or move on.

To answer your question, both the stated and unstated:

There should be no pressure difference on the rod between neutral and engaged. The same plates/springs/load exists at the pushrod/cable no matter what gear (or neutral) has been selected.

DO NOT REMOVE THE PUSHROD AS THE BALL BEARING AT THE CLUTCH SIDE CAN FALL INTO THE ENGINE.

Engine oil should lubricate the rod as it splashes around the gearbox. That's why it goes through a seal into the gearbox area of the cases....

Maybe you should lubricate your cable?

just curious due to the z1enterprises ape clutch for the 650 and 750, there is a recommended bearing as opposed to the stock one that is recommended due to the stock one "welding" itself to the pushrod.

That's the mushroom that pushes against the clutch. The one they sell has roller bearings in it. Most people don't have issues with this unless running high rpms consistently which can cause it to start to slip which can create friction and melt together. I've never had this happen on my bikes. Don't know of anyone who has, especially on a street bike.
