setting the idle air mix screws as wireman said..... I don't know how far you disassembled the carbs, I'm just throwing this out there , You may want to recheck the carbs if you had the carb tops off when cleaning.... cv carb diaphram slide not moving/stuck (has a hole, diaphram not installed correctly).

Thanks for the comfort Wireman, haha. Girlfriend is the same way. She even makes it a point to bring up these things when meeting new people.

I'll play with the idle screws for a little bit and see what I can do. Thanks alot guys. really appreciate the help.

turboking-Wouldn't hurt to go through the carbs again. I did play around with the diaphragms the first time I had it out. Those things are expensive to replace, especially if they're nos. But yeah, we kept them away from the carb cleaner and checked for cracking. Maybe I'll do a bench sync today, and recheck to make sure the diaphragms are seated properly.

my ex 500 was given to me because the owner decided the engine was blown. I got it home and after installing a new battery it ran on 1 cylinder. I did the quick old compression test. it had low compression on one cylinder so I pulled the carbs off, the p.o. or some else had the cv diaphram installed wrong and it would not lift the slide ,only the butterfly was moving. :woohoo: viola ,running on 2 cylinders, compressions the same on both cylinders now........ Free motorcycle with less than 2k on the odometer.

Bench synced my carbs last night and will doing so I realized that I've got a couple passages blocked off. I'm really hoping this could be the reason as to why it's sounding so hard.

Also noticed that my clutch somehow seized on me. It's acting really strange. My plates are sticking together as if they are gunked up. If I push hard enough they will eventually slowly give and I can roll the bike. But once I let go it locks right back up and I have to work it loose again. There's still quite a bit of friction there once it's loose too. I put the plates in a couple months back. I've played with the cable. I can see the plates opening through the oil fill port. My guess is that gas seeping into the oil from leaving the fuel on overnight might of ate the friction modifiers in my oil. Dang.
What do you guys think? I really appreciate all the help lately. I'm knew to bikes.
