Swap short breather cover for a tall one?

I’ve got a 77 KZ1000-A with the stock (tall) breather cover, without the stock air box. Just got my new K&N pod filters and the little breather pod filter that is attached directly to the breather cover nipple, hits my new air filters. I did have the cone type air filters that worked fine. So..... I added a short section of 3/8" tubing to locate the breather pod above the air filters - and it works. BUT, it blows and rattles around so I like to go to a short breather cover, so I can go back to my other set up.

Can I use a KZ750 short cover? Looks like I'd have to remove the internal baffles to make room for the short cover. Also that might allow oil to burp out thru the filter. Anyone have any insight into this???

Take and attach a piece of clear vinyl tubing to the nipple on existing vent and run it up between filters above battery and loop it back down towards rear wheel area and zip tie it to frame tubes under seat area.
This will keep oil from blowing out as much and will keep water/junk out of crankcase.
Ive never seen a need to put one of those filters on there myself anyway ,seems like more of a restriction to me B)

I had the same problem on my '78 so I simply flipped the two inner filters upside down so as to provide more room below them. Problem solved and no extra $$ spent.

Imo the little added filter is useless and actually impairs vent function which is to exhale freely.

The stock routing into air box provides a slight suction which aids vent function.

Another option is redirecting the vent through a hose exiting underneath the bike or elsewhere.

I run an APE cover on my turbo bike - it gives much more clearance for the turbo and associated plumbing. However, inside the tall tower are baffles - and these help collect oil thrown up from the transmission. I have a catch bottle tucked down by the swingarm, and it does collect a small amount of oil - not a massive amount, but noticeably more than when I ran the baffled tower.

Simple answer is Yes! ;)
Any of the low breather covers will bolt straight on from any Z650/Z750 or later J/gpz etc.
Only one thing to watch though.
Make sure the bolt you use(m8 thread}is not too long as it will hit the gear cluster (transmission)and cause damage to the gear teeth or even lock it solid.
