OK, then here goes. I did the very first 70 mm pistons in the Z1 back in 73 or 74. Been doing it ever since with no problems.
We actually did some 70.75mm Z1s.back in the day.
In fact we have five Z1 blocks in the shop now all to be bored for 70 mm pistons.

The head I will use for this build requires some work. I'll remove it and take it to a shop for repair of a cross threaded spark plug hole, valve grind, and guides.
However I would like your opinions. Should I consider having a few thou shaved off? I see no reason to believe that it is not flat, but while I have it off, why not?
Cheers,
Ross

i would let a straight edge "make the whether to shave or not" decision for me.
you can always have it shaved, putting it back is a lil harder .
thats my .02 fwiw.

Also how much can you shave off before you need to start worrying about the dowel pins being to long? Everyone needs to remember about the dowel pins. I remember someone talking about cracking there head bacause there dowels were to long.

Thanks, I'll set the machine shop decide. Best not to play around with it unless it's necessary. My aim is to have a reliable, flexible, no fuss motor. I prefer my current kz1000 motor over my kz900. It seems to be smoother overall and more torquey.
