What cam to use (1075)? was created by kzz1king
I have very mild cams right now. 360 I believe. Stock heads, 29's 1075 kit. Would I gain much by going with something a little more aggressive? What will I lose?
Thanks

well this is opening up a can of worms.... B) B)

I feel without increase air flow CFM...though the head....you are not going to realize the HP gains for the money....you need to port head if you go bigger. I think a KZ head flows 70 cfm while a J head with 32/38 would be around 103 cfm.....if you could get close to 90 on a KZ would be gr8....but would probley include a valve upgrade.... 30/37.5 or so cant rem kz valve...would include wicked port job....but 90 or over would be tits on CFM.

shim on top....I like Web Cams grind #110 395 lift. You can run this cam with mild port job. I have heard of people running 420 lift cams with shim on top but you are asking for possible problems....I wouldnt do it.

Shim under...I might look at Cam Motion grinds based on bench test cfm flow of head matched with cam and cams RPM range. I would reccomened a serious port job 420 lift and up. You have to get all components to work toghter not aginst eachother....this is where experiance of an engine builder comes into play.....not the guy at the kawasaki dealer.

Larry C. would be the guy to ask....I have read some of his stuff on this subject and its tightski....I would ask him.

Try the cams you already have with a stage 1 port job from Larry,Id say that would be best bang for the buck B)

I already have APE springs in it and slotted cam sprockets. It took me a bit to degree the last set but I got it done.
The porting isnt bad but if I replace valves and guides the parts start adding up.

Well a stock head can only move so much air no matter what cams you have, thats why I say to have the head done which will give you a more streetable combination than big choppy cams B)

I agree Wireman. I listed the above to point out I would not need springs if I port the head and can do the install myself. The cost of head porting is not bad but not sure if I would need to replace guides and valves. That is what starts to get costly. From what I hear though the headwork really pulls it all together.
