KZ1000P; resonance at 4K RPM normal? was created by imon_2nd
Hello, all.

I'm really enjoying my 1997 KZ1000P. It is close to 100% restored and I've been commuting 25 miles each way every day as often as possible. One thing that seems odd: At exactly 4,000 RPM in any gear the engine vibration "rings" the whole bike. By 4,300 RPM the buzzing is gone completely. At all other engine speeds everything is vibe-free. I don't remember this being the case on the Z1 900cc bike I rode years ago. Is this vibe point typical for the KZ1000? Should I be looking for a problem somewhere in the motor?

Cheers,

Dave

Keepin' the rubber side down.

They have the rubber mount engine setup that reduces vibrations, but also causes a certain place where vibrations are more. It's been a long time since I had a rubber mount engine, but remember certain RPMs where vibes were pretty bad.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I have an '02. I am not getting any sympathetic vibration at any RPM. I steepened the gearing by going down 4 teeth in the rear for a gearing of 17/42 (I didn't notice any before the change either). This has calmed the motor at highway speeds. It was part of my project to increase gas mileage.
