Leaking oil from the shift shaft/lever.
17 Sep 2012 12:43
I can't seem to find the replacement o ring for a 1981 kz550 shift lever. There is oil leaking and it would be nice to stop that. Any help would be appreciated. I have look on Z1 and they don't seem to have one for this model.

You might try calling them directly to see if they sell it seperately from full gasket set.
While youre there you might want to tell them somebody put the seals in the middle of one of the gaskets to look like a smiley face which is not the kind of thing we need here on a serious motorcycle website!
Tell them to keep that stuff in chit chat! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

No luck finding anything for this year and model. Found some seals that look so much like what is on my bike that i'm wondering how different these seals can be if it is made for a Kawasaki and the shift levers are the same diameter...right? I found this one on Liskas.com.
Its 6 bucks so.

The seal out of my 1980 A4 is .7612 of an inch (outer diameter). If you can get a measurement from yours or the liska one you can move on. You now know the diameter of the KZ 1000 does it match your 81 KZ 550 A..????

I'm at work, so no pics right now, but if you go under the kawasaki parts diagram for the Breather Cover/Oil Pan, there's another piece there that looks like it might be what you're looking for. Part number 9 on there is an oil seal that looks about right. Part # 92051-005 and is still active. Definitely double check that I'm looking at the right thing before buying, I haven't worked with the 550's, but the hole looks about right for where the shift shaft comes out.
