Anyway, I like the additional cornering clearance and I am a sucker for a gilmer drive belt, but wouldn't it be easier to just reduce your electrical loads such as HID headlight, LED signals, etc?

That's a good point about the pant leg getting caught in the belt. I think I would rig a cover  I have always thought the stator on the KZ was a bit cumbersome. But that was the design of that era. But I have wondered if there was a low profile aftermarket stator/cover combination out there? Maybe even smaller in diameter. But sill having the an equal output using more modern components.

Less reciprocating mass on the end of your crank. Similar to a total loss ignition on a jet ski. FAST rev. Hindsight, it would be a performance mod.
Remember, don't work on your bike so much you never ride it.

Used everyday for 15 years and still going strong on the original belt.
Simpler wiring too as the reg/rec is already in the alt.

is there any way we could persuade you to tell us which alternator you used and what ratio the pulley set is and, basically tell us all how to do it and show us pictures and write up an instructional article and and and :woohoo: !
it looks great, super sanitary and highly functional.
which is what we have grown to expect from all of your builds.

It's a ZX9R alt running at just less than engine speed 40/44 tooth pulleys.
Had to do away with the starter clutch to keep every thing slim and simple.
As for the ZEPH1R project as i have cunningly named it here's a recent pic.
Sorry for the thread hijack.
