I didn't want to pry it out because I trying to keep the engine closed for cleaning , but it's defiantly rubber and deep too.
Can you fish around underneath the metal face or is it a straight drilled hole ?

Motor Head wrote: Difficult to tell from the picture you posted, but it looks like a gap around the edge of the circumference on the end of where the seal should fit. Are you sure that is Solid Metal? And not some washer put there by a PO? (PO= Previous Owner). Put a small punch in from the engine end of the assy, and drive the seal and what looks like a washer out. Thats what it looks like anyway. If not consider getting another housing assy.
yea sorry about quality but my missus and cameras.. well lets not go there..
I said the same to her so to prove the point she sent a video of her tapping it with a screwdriver and it's definitely metal,
when i get home i'll try prising it out as it could be a PO fitted washer !!
but you can see why i was getting confused!

the seal underneath is completely knackered and rock hard, now comes the fun bit of getting that out!
I notice you can buy new kits on ebay for around 30-40 bucks i might have to order one of those as mine's a little bit chewed up.

Your housing doesn't look that bad from here
If you get a proper O ring for the shaft and are able to pull that seal out safely I think you'll be alright.
You might try smearing a little Permatex black where the seal meets the wall of the housing and press it in.
Then again it would be a drag to have to mess with it any more so it's your call.
Good luck
